Teenagers stabbed outside St Albans school gates following escalated argument – Video captures youth wielding machete outside college and then attacking

Two Teenagers were stabbed outside the gates of St Albans College in Hertfordshire after witnesses claimed a row escalated into violence. CCTV footage taken by a local business owner appears to show a youth wielding a machete lunging at another person outside Oaklands College. At around 3:30pm, armed police, a police helicopter, and the East of England Ambulance Service arrived at Hatfield Road in response to the incident. Both a 16-year-old boy and a 17-year-old boy sustained serious injuries and were taken to the hospital for treatment. Authorities are now conducting a manhunt to locate the perpetrator.

Following the stabbing, security was increased and patrols were conducted outside the college entrance. The college has not confirmed whether its students were involved in the attack but stated that it provided a central space for the emergency services during the incident. Despite the incident, the college resumed regular operations today and is collaborating closely with the police.

A friend of one of the victims stated that the attack was sparked by a verbal altercation between two students, resulting in stabbings both outside a shop and within the college grounds. The friend mentioned that his injured friend’s arm was slashed with a machete and praised the college’s response, mentioning that security escorted individuals off the premises. The owner of the shop where one of the stabbings occurred revealed that he had never experienced such an incident during his two decades in the area. Describing the weapon as “a massive big knife,” he mentioned that the students had been arguing inside his shop prior to the attack.

Hertfordshire Constabulary has appealed for information and confirmed that the perpetrator is still at large. Oaklands College issued a statement acknowledging the serious incident but did not provide further details. They emphasized their commitment to the safety and security of their students and staff and announced an increase in security presence for the following day to reassure the college community.

In response to the incident, a neighbor remarked on past issues with litter and anti-social behavior near the bus stop and shop but still considered the area generally safe. The neighbor expressed concern over the behavior of college teenagers, stating that while not all teenagers are problematic, some make poor decisions. Inspector Paul Caro of Hertfordshire Constabulary assured the public that the incident is being treated as an isolated event, but increased patrols are being conducted to safeguard others. Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact Detective Sergeant Paul Wadsworth via email at [email protected], quoting ISR 584 (09/10/23).
