A man has been arrested after he climbed the Ferris wheel on Santa Monica pier and claimed to have a bomb, causing a two-hour evacuation and leaving riders stranded in the gondolas. The incident occurred at around 2:35pm and the man was detained around 4:30pm. Negotiators were able to talk him down, and it was confirmed that he did not have any explosives on him. A cherry picker was dispatched to rescue those still on the Ferris wheel, but those at the very top had to wait until the man was removed. The Santa Monica Police Department advised people to avoid the pier during the incident. Santa Monica pier is a popular tourist attraction in the Los Angeles area.
