Carolina Panthers’ Michael Oher addressed the media during their NFL football offseason conditioning program in Charlotte, N.C., on April 20, 2015. In a recent petition filed on August 14, 2023, Oher, the former NFL tackle famous for the movie “The Blind Side,” accused Sean and Leigh Anne Tuohy of deceiving him by having him sign papers making them his conservators instead of his adoptive parents in 2004. Oher, now 37, filed the petition in the Shelby County, Tenn., probate court seeking to dissolve the conservatorship established by the Tuohy family. Additionally, Oher requested that the Tuohys account for his assets as required by the conservatorship, compensate him for any money owed with interest, cover his attorney fees and punitive damages, and be punished for violating the terms of the conservatorship. Oher met the Tuohy family while attending high school and went on to spend eight years as an NFL offensive tackle. However, he alleges that the Tuohys instead set up a conservatorship to profit from his name, image, and likeness, without actually adopting him. The petition also claims that Oher never received any financial benefit from the success of “The Blind Side,” despite the fact that the movie made millions of dollars, in part due to his story. Oher contends that he was unaware that the Tuohys were not his legal parents until earlier this year when he discovered the truth. He also alleges that his name was forged on a document in 2007 granting 20th Century Fox rights to use his personal experiences related to the book and movie. Oher demands that if the document was indeed forged by the Tuohys, they should surrender all profits made from the movie, including interest, and pay him punitive damages. Oher accuses the Tuohys of violating the terms of the contract by failing to provide annual accounts of his assets and requests that they be sanctioned accordingly. Despite the 2004 filing for the conservatorship, Oher states in his latest petition that he is capable of handling his own affairs, rendering the conservatorship unnecessary.
