Michael Jordan memorabilia usually sells for thousands, if not millions of dollars at auction but this weekend, his 1996 Mercedes-Benz S600 Lorinser is going up for sale for just $23.

The price is in homage to Jordan’s iconic jersey number from his time at the Chicago Bulls that propelled his image – and that of the NBA – to new heights across the globe as he won six NBA titles.

It will go up for sale at The National Sports Collectors Convention on Saturday in Chicago and according to the livestream marketplace WhatNot, who is hosting the sale, it has an estimated value of $120,000.

The car was even seen in The Last Dance, during the scene when Jordan drives away from reporters when they are quizzing him over retirement rumors.

While Jordan has previously owned supercars like a Porsche and a Ferrari, this Mercedes Benz has become well known by fans because of how understated it is compared some of the other vehicles he has had in his collection.

Michael Jordan’s Mercedes-Benz S600 is going up for sale for just $23 this weekend

Jordan owned the car in the mid-nineties during the golden years of his NBA career

The $23 price reflects the number on his jersey from his days playing for the Chicago Bulls

The car is metallic blue and inside, it has dark gray leather seats with Jordan’s name still on a car phone. His name also appears on the dashboard.

But the low price it can sell for is remarkable, especially considering his jersey from the 1998 NBA finals sold for a huge $10.1million in September last year.

The WhatNot website says it is ‘giving fans the incredible opportunity to own the 1996 Mercedes-Benz S600 Lorinser previously owned by basketball Legend Michael Jordan for the unbelievable price of just $23.

‘This car represents the pinnacle of Michael Jordan Memorabilia and is a must-have for collectors and fans alike.’

WhatNot’s Instagram page said on Thursday that there are still 48 hours remaining for any potential buyers to signal an interest.

Interested parties are asked to enter a drop on the What Not app – it is free to enter – and a buyer will be selected at random to make the purchase.

But in times gone by, selling it has proven harder than many people may have expected.

Jordan sold the car in 2003 and since then, a number of potential sales have fallen through

During his playing career, Jordan led the Bulls to six NBA titles in an era of supreme dominance

In 2020, the car was sold on ebay for $202,000 but a deal was never completed as the buyer could not gather the funds.

According to AutoEvolution, Jordan owned the car until 2003 and the Beverley Hills Car Club tried to sell it last year for $135,000.

But for $23, it should be easy enough for a buyer to claim their own piece of Jordan’s fabled history in American sports.
