Los Angeles Lakers ‘agree returns for D’Angelo Russell and Austin Reaves and reach agreement with free agent Jaxson Hayes’ as they make quick moves

The Los Angeles Lakers have reportedly re-signed D’Angelo Russell and Austin Reaves, while also in line to acquire Jaxson Hayes as they continue to move fast in this free agency.

Within the first hour of free agency opening on Friday, a reported $1.02billion in salaries was committed as teams began to splash a serious amount of cash. 

And the Lakers were active again on Saturday with Russell agreeing to a $37million, two-year contract, according to ESPN.

The outlet revealed the two-year deal involves a player option in the final year. 

While The Athletic reported Reaves has reached an agreement on a $56m, four-year early bird maximum deal with the team.

Prior to those moves, ESPN also reported the Lakers and free agent center Hayes had agreed to a two-year deal. 

Hayes, 23, will have a player option on the second year of the deal, per ESPN. Financial terms were not disclosed.

The 6-foot-11 Hayes averaged 5.0 points and 2.8 rebounds in 47 games (two starts) with the New Orleans Pelicans in 2022-23.

Prior to those moves, it was reported the Lakers and Jaxson Hayes had agreed two-year deal

Hayes appeared in 241 games (47 starts) and averaged 7.5 points and 4.0 rebounds in four seasons with the Pelicans. He was the No. 8 overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft.

Contract agreements with free agents become official July 6, per NBA rules.

It continues a busy start to free agency for the Lakers, who reached deals Friday with Rui Hachimura, Gabe Vincent, Taurean Prince and Cam Reddish.
