(CNN) –– Nicolas Coster, a veteran actor best remembered for his work on the daytime dramas “Santa Barbara” and “Another World,” died Monday, June 26, his daughter announced in a Facebook post.

“It is with great sadness that I am posting this,” Dinneen Coster wrote. “Nicolas Coster passed away tonight at a Florida hospital. Please remember him as a great artist. He was an actor’s actor! He will always be my inspiration and I know how lucky I am to have such a great father! Rest in peace.”
In a statement to CNN, Coster’s agent, Chrystal Ayers, said that he died of complications from a long battle with cancer.
With more than 100 film and television roles, Coster’s career spanned several decades. Among many other titles, Coster worked on several long-running Daytime Soap operas.
Coster was best known for his role as Robert Delaney on the NBC television series “Somerset.” He joined the cast in 1970 and continued to play Delaney on “Another World” until 1980. He appeared in more than 250 episodes during his tenure on the series, to which he returned in 1989 for its 25th anniversary.
He also played Lionel Lockridge on the daytime soap opera “Santa Barbara,” which followed a community of wealthy families in the wealthy Californian city. Coster appeared in almost 600 episodes between 1984 and 1993.
Throughout his career, Coster appeared on other notable soap operas including “As the World Turns” as Eduardo Grimaldi, as gangster-turned-snitch Anthony Makana on “One Life to Live” and kidnapper Steve Andrews on “All My Children.” . His first soap opera role was in the 1960s, when he played Professor Paul Britton on “The Secret Storm.”
The Londoner grew up in California and returned to England to study acting at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, and later studied acting with famed teacher and theater director Lee Strasberg in New York, according to his biography.
His early acting work in the 1960s included roles on various television shows, including “Our Private World” and “The Green Hornet,” after appearing in several uncredited feature films during the 1950s.
In 1976, he starred opposite Robert Redford and Dustin Hoffman as Markham in “All the President’s Men,” the iconic film account of how “Washington Post” reporters Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein uncovered crucial details related to the Watergate scandal that led to the resignation of former President Richard Nixon.
Coster also played Colonel Huff in “MacArthur” opposite Gregory Peck, the 1977 World War II biopic of General Douglas MacArthur, and appeared in the 1981 newspaper drama “Reds” opposite Warren Beatty.
Coster’s most recent credits include the role of Archbishop Norman in the 2020 horror film “The Last Exorcist” and as LLoyd Cutler in the Ryan Murphy miniseries “American Crime Story: Impeachment” in 2021. His latest credit in 2023 is for an episode of “The Rookie: Feds” as Joseph Cicero.
Coster also published his memoir “Another Whole Afternoon” in 2021 and was a celebrated stage actor with various performances on and off Broadway.
