Recovering After a Back Injury: Top Tips to Help You Get Back into Shape

Your back holds you up and is one of the key cornerstones to your mobility, and yet, it’s actually a very delicate part of your body. If it breaks, you can lose complete control and sensation over your legs, or even your whole body. A back Injury can send shooting Pain through the rest of you. It can limit your ability to move, and even interrupts your quality of life as a whole.

Back pain doesn’t have to come from a serious back injury, either. You may slowly develop an issue due to poor posture or for a wide number of reasons just because of the way you sit. If you have thrown out your back, or alternatively, deal with chronic pain that just doesn’t seem to want to go away, then look no further than these top tips to help you get back into shape.

Start with Therapy

If you’ve thrown out your back or otherwise are in serious pain, then you owe it to yourself and your future to invest in professional physical Therapy options. This can be with a licensed physical therapist, a chiropractor, a massage therapist, or a mixture of all three. Only when you work with your body and take your injury seriously can you start to move forward properly.

Chiropractic Care

Chiropractic care can help relieve build-up pressure along your spine. It can also take quick care of those shooting pains you feel down the back of your legs, otherwise known as sciatica. Chiropractic care can help with whiplash, with chronic back pain, and can even help those with issues like scoliosis. It isn’t a cure-all, but it is a great way to add depth to your pain management strategy.

Massage Therapy

Rehabilitation massage therapy is another great way to deal with aches and pains that are muscle related. Stress can cause muscle knots, and injuries can pull on those fibres and tendons alike. Massages feel amazing and can help boost your circulation, so your body can send more white blood cells to the injury to help you heal.

Physical Therapy

If you were injured in an accident, then you’ll need to work on building back the strength and flexibility you’ll need to reclaim most if not all of your life. If you don’t do the work after your injury, you may lock and limit your capabilities. Physical therapy can’t help everything, but it can maximize your recovery results.

Building Up Core Strength

Aside from therapy options, you will also want to start building up your core strength. Your core can do so much for your back by taking the bulk of the work off your shoulders – literally.

On top of building up your core strength, of course, you’ll also need to work on your posture. There is a very specific way you can stand that uses more of your core muscles and less of your back to stand tall. Find that center and work on making that your go-to standing position. Don’t confuse good posture with forcing your spine backwards, either. You need to be centered straight, as to far forward and too far back can both result in or exacerbate back pain.
