He Consumer Price Index (CPI) Argentina would have advanced 6.2% in February, after jumping 6% the previous month, which would exceed the ratio of 100% in the interannual measurement, according to the median of a Reuters poll.

Estimates among 17 local and foreign analysts yielded the same percentage for the CPI average for the second month of 2023.

“February inflation would again mark a rise compared to the previous month, in this case close to 6.5% and with great influence of the food component, mainly meat,” said Jerónimo Montalvo, economist at Empiria Consultores.

The projections of surveyed analysts oscillated between a minimum and maximum advance of 5.7% and 6.5%, respectively. On the other hand, the interannual variation estimate to February reached a median of 101.7 percent.

“Behind our forecast is a monthly inflation of 6% in February, which is consistent with the inflation rising to 101.3% yoy from 98.8% yoy in January,” Goldman Sachs said.

For the second month of the year “we estimate a monthly variation of .4%,” said Lucio Garay Méndez, economist at the Eco Go consultancy, adding that the price of “meat accelerated and pushed up the “Food” category due to its great weight inside the basket. Housing and Health were other items that also accelerated strongly”.

According to the latest survey of market expectations (REM) of the Argentine central bank (BCRA), the CPI for the second month of the year would be 6.1%, while for 2023 it would show 99.9 percent.

The National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (INDEC), according to its publication calendar, will release the official inflation data for the previous month on Tuesday afternoon.
