In a context where entities of the country are disputing the arrival of Tesla Motors, Michoacán also presented its candidacy in which it assured that it has sufficient infrastructure.

Governor Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla explained that given the new industrial boom that is going through, known as nearshoring, and that the automobile manufacturing company seeks to manufacture in Mexico, the entity has become more competitive compared to other states because it has logistics spaces and enough water.

Documents to which El Economista had access highlight areas of opportunity such as the annual provision of 1 million cubic meters of water with a concession granted for years by the National Water Commission (Conagua).

“There is feasibility of electric power. In Michoacán, 7.8 million megawatt-hours are produced, 90% comes from hydroelectric plants and 10% geothermal. Michoacán represents 25% of the installed capacity at the national level”, the publication refers to.

The president explained that the offer focuses on two locations: Parque Bajío 1 and the island of La Palma. “We have two locations that are in the international supply logistics route of the automotive industry. Michoacán will continue to raise its hand”.

Precisely, the document indicates that Parque Bajío 1 is made up of 400 hectares near the Mexico-Guadalajara highway.

The place, known as Estación Queréndaro, has railway lines that connect the Lázaro Cárdenas port with the United States and Canada, and is located 7 kilometers from the Francisco J. Mújica International Airport.

It has direct access to the Puerto Lázaro Cárdenas Railroad, as well as Federal Highway 140 (Morelia – Zinapécuaro). It is also 15 kilometers from the LZC-MLM-León Highway, in addition to 140 kilometers from León in Guanajuato and 220 kilometers from Mexico City by highway.

Regarding services, the electrical capacity for 70,000 kW and also clean energy (hydroelectric and geothermal) stand out.

On the other hand, there are entities like Guanajuato that did not join the list. “We already have seven automotive plants, they are very large. What we want now are technology companies, we are targeting the data center issue,” said Governor Diego Sinhue Rodríguez Vallejo.

Tony Payán, director of the Center for the United States and Mexico of the Baker Institute, at Rice University, commented that “Tesla, Microsoft, companies of this magnitude have specific commitments to bring the environmental footprint to zero (…) if the If the government wanted to intervene, it would have to guarantee (Tesla) clean energy, which is found in states like Sonora and Nuevo León.”
