Three months after concluding his term -along with three other directors- after a period of nine years, the president of the National Electoral Institute (INE), Lorenzo Córdova Vianello, reported that he is preparing the administrative closure of that electoral body.

He clarified that the INE It will continue with its daily activities such as the issuance of voter credentials with photography, in addition to the organization of the extraordinary election in Tamaulipas and the government renewal processes in the State of Mexico and Coahuila.

He pointed out that the administrative closure only implies the preparation of a management report, and white papers on the operation of the INE.

“In these months we will carry out an administrative closure after 9 years in charge of the Presidency of the General Council of the INE, which includes a complete and comprehensive management report, as well as the preparation of a series of white papers that are not only a exercise of accountability and transparency, but rather to generate important inputs to understand the current operation of the electoral system, the way in which 330 electoral processes have been successfully organized from 2014 to date, and the areas or issues in which the electoral system could be improved. system and expand citizen rights,” said Córdova.

After defending the replacement of directors every three and six years, Lorenzo Córdova indicated that the INE It is one of the most audited institutions, and for this reason a management closure is essential to the democratic commitment that today allows the INE to be the civil institution of the Mexican State that enjoys the highest rate of approval and public trust.

“At the INE we are preparing for the imminent replacements in the presidency of the General Council and of three other ministries with two priorities: keeping active the defense of our democracy, which implies -among other things- taking the necessary actions to protect the current electoral system, the national electoral professional service, the labor rights of all INE personnel, both in central offices and in district boards; and legally shield the technical procedures and professional qualities that are required for the integrity of our electoral processes, ”he stated.

He stressed that in the coming months the legal defense of the electoral reform (Plan B) will continue, promoted by the federal government, “which violates the autonomy, independence, certainty and legality of our electoral system, it is a battle in which -I am sure – We will have the accompaniment of the citizenry, the academy, other powers of the Union, other authentically autonomous constitutional bodies and the workers of the INE, as well as the Local Electoral Public Bodies”.

The director Lorenzo Córdova, as well as the directors Ciro Murayama, Adriana Favela and José Roberto Ruiz Saldaña, will conclude their term as members of the General Council on April 4, and in their place the Chamber of Deputies must appoint the new counselors.
