Los jobs with the best salaries they had a fall of 16.1% during the third quarter of this year, the highest among the different levels of remuneration of people with a subordinate job, this according to the National Survey of Occupation and Employment (ENOE).

From the data presented by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi) this Wednesday, it can be deduced that jobs with a remuneration greater than five minimum wages, that is, above 26,300 pesos per month –the highest level of the classification–, had a reduction of 101,294 places between July and September, proportionally the highest.

Even within the general occupation, which includes, in addition to salaried people, independent workers and employers, the category of the best paid was the one that fell the most, with a quarterly decrease of 12.8 percent.

In addition, jobs with a salary between 15,800 and 26,300 pesos monthly, that is, those ranging from three to five minimum wages.

For their part, the subordinate jobs that showed the best dynamism in the quarterly comparison were those with a salary of between two and three minimum wages – between 10,500 and 15,800 pesos per months–, with an advance of 4.76%, which implied an increase of 297,876 people to this classification.

The other line with an advance, although more marginal, was that of jobs with a remuneration of between one and two minimum wages, that is, between 5,255 and 10,510 pesos per monthwith a growth of 0.15% compared to what was reported for the second quarter of this year.

Concerns grow over wages

After a year with high inflation rates and its impact on people’s pockets, wages were once again at the forefront of workers’ priorities, leaving behind issues such as labor flexibility and career development, aspects that escalated as priorities in the pandemic.

At least four out of 10 workers in Mexico are dissatisfied with their remuneration and an additional 15% are not sure if the salary they currently receive is adequate, according to the findings of the Remuneration Study 2022-2023 of PageGroup.

“In a context in which purchasing power is diminishing and inflation that has reached levels not seen in more than two decades in Mexico, wages are today the greatest concern of workers and the main motivation to change jobs. employment, especially when it does not correspond to what they consider fair remuneration, either because of the amount of time spent at work or because the responsibilities do not align with the salary received,” the report states.

Salary as the main motivator of employees is not a trend that is only observed in Mexico. The report The future of the global workforce of Adecco, also shows that at a global level this element is one of the most important aspects in talent retention today.

According to said report, 45% of people consider looking for a new job in the next 12 months and as the main reason for these changes they point to the improvement in their income. Also, only 32% of the workforce consider that their current salary fairly reflects their work schedule and 30% agree that their remuneration is commensurate with their experience and skills.
