Brooklyn DIY culture may seem like the stuff of Portlandia-esque comedy sketches with its amateur pickling workshops and knitting collectives, but its made-from-scratch spirit can carry accurate weight when it comes to brewing beer – especially Strong Rope in Gowanus, which, according to co-founder/brewer Jason Sahler, stands as the sole NYC brewery that only uses local ingredients in their beer production process.

The brewery is an intimate neighborhood-oriented space where casual drinks and group conversations take place in low-key comfort. Enjoy their seasonal and reinterpreted classic beer selection, including their flagship Brooklyn Lager! Plus, they also offer wines, ciders, and spirits.

Gowanus Brewery may be hard to reach (the nearest subway stop is Smith St on the F train), but its relaxing atmosphere minimizes inconvenience. There are tables out front and an inviting space filled with barrels ideal for group hangouts, all surrounded by a young, diverse crowd, creating a lively and friendly environment.

Red Hook Brewing Company operates two locations – one in Red Hook, Brooklyn, and a seasonal one at Potters Resort on Blue Mountain Lake in the Adirondacks – serving beers made with 100% local New York State ingredients while also serving wine, cider, and spirits from New York state producers. Evil Twin Brewing

Jeppe Jarnit-Bjergso, known for founding Greenpoint brewery Torst and creating its wildly successful taproom Torst in Greenpoint, will launch his inaugural permanent Queens brewery and taproom on October 2. Located in Ridgewood and boasting 15 15-barrel system brewery and a 1,450 sq/ft urban greenhouse with 76 76-seat bar and outdoor beer garden, his Ridgewood facility opens its doors for business on October 2.

The space offers a welcome escape from its industrial neighborhood, designed to look like an idyllic greenhouse. Hanging plants and earth-toned stained plywood help achieve this look created in collaboration between Jarnit-Bjergso and Brooklyn design firm Kushner Studios (who also designed his Greenpoint location).

Evil Twin may be best known for their smoothie-style sours and fruity blends, but its Ridgewood location offers much more variety. At its launch, the lineup will feature 20 taps – such as an exotic triple IPA featuring mango and marshmallow as ingredients and another with banana and fig flavors; four of each style will also be on rotation.

In addition to an impressive array of beers, the brewery will offer non-alcoholic drinks, including hard seltzers in flavors like mimosa and watermelon granita. Guests can order food from its on-site cafe featuring dishes from various local restaurants and food trucks.

Evil Twin’s primary focus as a brewery is to craft quality beers and sell them to beer lovers. But this place offers much more: people can come together and relax here!

At this brewery, the atmosphere is more formal and conversation-friendly, as music volume is maintained at just the appropriate level to allow for conversation without needing to shout over other patrons. Talea Brewing

Talea Brewing is New York City’s inaugural all-female-owned brewery, created by co-founders LeAnn Darland and Tara Hankinson to make craft beers more approachable to women who may have avoided them because of masculine packaging or bitter flavors. They opened their first taproom in Williamsburg in 2021; today, there’s one in Cobble Hill; Manhattan will follow later this year!

Both of Brooklyn’s brewery locations have been designed to mimic a bar while providing more seating and gathering spaces for customers. Furthermore, their more diverse staff strives to foster an environment that welcomes women while they strive for inclusivity – something the owners value as crucial in creating an inviting and accepting atmosphere at their brewery.

Williamsburg’s taproom features vibrant colors and airy spaces to encourage communal gatherings, making it ideal for group outings and beer samplings. Their beers feature fruit-forward flavors like tropical ingredients that may put off other drinkers. Their flagship Sun Up Hazy IPA and Peach Berry Punch Sour beers are fan favorites among visitors; experience them both soon.

At Talea locations across Brooklyn and Cobble Hill, both flights, pints, bottles, and cans of Talea’s beers can be enjoyed alongside non-alcoholic drinks and light bites. Its Cobble Hill location serves breakfast, coffee, snacks, and wine! – visitors can find breakfast served every Sunday-Thursday between 10 am-11 pm and Friday and Saturday from 10 am-12 am.

Talea stands out as exceptional because they employ a team of 23 cross-trained employees to share in the cooking, brewing, cleaning, and hosting duties. Furthermore, Talea strives to use as many women as possible because equal representation helps foster an inclusive work environment.

As a result, they have created their path in the beer industry, helping change how women are seen and treated. Their goal is to expand their business while making innovative beer, specifically targeting female drinkers.
