I'm going to share TWO simple Lightroom tricks that will help make your images pop.

And here's an image I captured at Letchworth State Park, and we have your typical two-D rendition of the scene.

And I chose a traditional style edit that best represents what I saw at the time of capture, but I wanted to add a little something extra to add some depth to the overall scene, which you’ll see once I reveal the two tips.

Now the gorge is quite deep and this first edit doesn’t quite show that.

So what I need to do is adjust the light to better show the details in the gorge, and at the same time, this will create more of a 3D type of effect that gives us the depth based on my creative vision.

So how can you do this?

Well, you can target individual color channels, for the first layer of light adjustments, with HSL, which stands for hue, saturation, and luminance.

And the second layer of light adjustments is even more powerful, more on that in a second.

Now, since I want to target the light of each color, we're going to use luminance, and I already have my luminance settings applied.

It's just turned off, so I'm gonna go ahead and click and turn it on.

And I made the orange and green colors brighter and the blue colors darker, which adds the first layer of depth, since the sky is darker and the foreground is brighter.

For the second layer of adding depth, you can do what is known as dodging and burning or targeting specific areas to make them brighter or darker with masks.

Again, I have it turned off, but here it is turned on and you can see that the sky is now darker and the foreground is even brighter.

And I simply used my brush tool to dab into different parts of the image and increased the exposure accordingly.
