Diljit Dosanjh Hits Back At Trolls That He Disrespected Indian Flag At Coachella 2023

Diljit Dosanjh, a singer and actor who performed twice at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in California this year, has responded to criticism he received for a statement he made during one of his performances.

In his second gig, he had said in Punjabi, “Eh mere Punjabi bhain bhraawan layi, Mere Desh da jhanda laike khadi aa kudi, eh mere desh layi, negativity ton bacho, music saareyan da saanjha (This girl is carrying my country’s flag, this is for my country and everyone. Music belongs to all, don’t use it to spread hate).”

Some people on the internet distorted his words and accused him of disrespecting the national flag. Diljit Dosanjh clarified his intention and urged his critics not to spread negativity.

His comment was misinterpreted and being presented as a message against the country and the Indian flag. “So @diljitdosanjh objects when someone waves Indian tricolour during one of his concert in US. Which passport he’s carrying? Republic of KhaIistan? Shame one those Indians who listen to such 2rs artists,” read a comment with the video.

On Tuesday night, the singer tweeted in Punjabi to address the spread of fake news and negativity surrounding his statement. He said, “Don’t spread fake news and negativity. Mai kiha eh mere desh da jhanda hai. Eh Mere Desh Lai.. Means meri eh performance mere desh lai je Punjabi nhi aundi tan Google kar leya karo yaar…Kion ke Coachella ek big musical Ffestival aa othey har desh to log aunde ne.. that’s why music sab da sanjha hai. Sahi gal nu puthi kive ghumauna koi tuadey wargeya ton sikey enu v Google kar lo,” which roughly translates to, “I had said this is my country’s flag, which she got here. This means she got my performance in my country. If you don’t understand Punjabi then please Google because Coachella is a big music festival which is attended by people across the world. That’s why music is for everyone. How to twist the right words, one should learn from you guys.”

On the work front, Diljit Dosanjh’s next film appearance will be in Rhea Kapoor’s The Crew, which also stars Kareena Kapoor, Tabu, and Kriti Sanon. After singing songs like Proper Patola, Do You Know, and Patiala Peg among others, Diljit Dosanjh became widely recognised. He has also appeared in a number of Punjabi films. Vibe and Lover are two of his other notable hits.

Among other Bollywood films, Diljit has appeared in Phillauri, Soorma, Welcome to New York, Arjun Patiala, Sooraj Pe Mangal Bhaari, and Good Newz.
