Indrani Mukerjea, a jailed former media executive convicted of murdering her daughter Sheena Bora in 2012, has written to the CBI saying she is alive and requesting an investigation, bringing a curious new twist to the sensational case.

According to reports quoting a letter delivered directly to the CBI chief, Indrani Mukherjea alleges she encountered a female prisoner who informed her she met Sheena Bora in Kashmir. “She wrote to the CBI, we have no details of what she wrote,” her lawyer Sana Khan said Wednesday, adding that she will file a formal bail plea.

Indrani Mukherjea, 49, has been imprisoned in Mumbai’s Byculla jail since 2015. She was arrested for the murder of Sheena Bora, her 25-year-old daughter from first marriage, whom she had represented for years as her sister.

Her now-ex-husband Peter Mukerjea was arrested three months after her arrest on suspicion of helping Indrani.

According to reports, investigators are not taking her recent accusation seriously.

According to investigators, Indrani Mukerjea killed Sheena Bora with the assistance of her driver Shyamvar Rai and her second husband Sanjeev Khanna.

As per the CBI, Indrani committed it because she was upset with Sheena over her connection with Rahul Mukerjea, Peter Mukerjea’s son from a previous marriage. The CBI took over the case in late 2015 following months of inquiry by the Mumbai police.

The CBI further said that Sheena Bora threatened to expose her mother following a financial disagreement between them.

Following the murder, Indrani allegedly informed everyone that Sheena had relocated to the United States.

Three years later, the murder was uncovered when Indrani Mukherjee’s driver was caught in another case.

According to the driver’s statement, Sheena’s half-burnt body was discovered in a jungle near Mumbai.

In the trial, which began in 2017, 60 witnesses have recorded their testimony.

Indrani and Peter Mukherjea divorced in 2019 after a 17-year relationship ended while they were still in prison. In 2020, Peter Mukherjea was granted bail.
