Highlights:

• The hostesses will only work during the day, and there will be no female staff on trains travelling at night.

In order to improve passenger services, Indian Railways will soon introduce Train hostesses in its premium trains such as Vande Bharat, Gatimaan, and Tejas Express. Train hostesses, on the other hand, will not be deployed on long-distance premium trains such as the Duronto Express and the Rajdhani Express.

According to a senior official, the decision to deploy train hostesses was made with the goal of providing better passenger services to people traveling on such trains.

However, the official stated that it will not be an all-female staff, but rather a mixed crew with a male attendant also being inducted to give hospitality services to passengers traveling on Indian Railways’ premium trains.

So, the next time you go by train, don’t be shocked if a lady approaches you smilingly to offer meals since the railways are intending to hire hostesses on select routes to compete with airlines.

According to the official, the train, like flights, would have hostesses, and the meals will be of airline quality. These hostesses will only work during the day and will not be assigned to overnight duties.

Indian Railways currently runs over 25 premium trains, such as 12 Shatabdi, two Vande Bharat, one Gatimaan, and one Tejas Express.

The railway hostesses will welcome passengers as they board the train, provide food, and attend to their complaints.

The uniforms used by the railway attendants will be the same. Only women who have received training in the field of hospitality service will be hired.

Meanwhile, the Indian Railways has decided to provide freshly prepared meals on Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Vande Bharat, Duronto, Tejas, and Gatiman Express trains, which is a significant step toward the restoration of passenger services.

An order has already been issued to all concerned departments and stakeholders in this respect.

The order said that the matter had been evaluated and that it had been decided to restart serving cooked foods on trains.

According to this order, Zonal Railways will check the catering expenses to be incurred based on the services offered and the applicable rate list, and upload the same into the PRS software to enable booking/opting out of Catering services at the time of ticket booking.
