Indian Government Brings Back Stranded Nationals, Hindus, Afghans and Holy Books From Afghanistan on Friday

Highlights:

  • A special chartered flight from Kabul, Afghanistan to New Delhi, India airlifts over 100 individuals including Afghan nationals, Sikhs, Hindus and some holy scriptures.
  • The rehabilitation responsibility for the Afghan nationals shall be borne by the Sobti Foundation according to IWF (India World Forum).
  • V Muraleedharan, the MoS for External Affairs notified the Parliament that the ministry officials are staying in contact with the Indians who were left in Afghanistan.

Chartered flights with over 100 people, primarily Afghans and Hindus make way from Kabul into New Delhi on Friday. The Afghans brought back a few Sikh books from an old gurdwara and some Hindu holy books from a temple in Kabul.

The Government of India chartered flight is scheduled to take back 90 Aghan nationals and medicines from India. Puneet Singh Chandhok, President of the India World forum revealed that 3 Guru Granth Sahib and Hindu scriptures comprising the Ramayana, Mahabharat, and Bhagavad Gita collected from the prehistoric Fifth Century Asamai Mandir will also be flown to India.

The Sobti Foundation will bear the responsibility of rehabilitating the Afghan nationals, IWF added. The statement issued by them read that the family of a local security guard, Mahram Ali who lost his life amid the terror attack in the Gurdwara Guru Har Rai located in Kabul’s Shor Bazar will also be airlifted and reintegrated by the Sobti Foundation.

The Guru Granth sahib will be kept at the Guru Anjan Dev Ji Gurdwara in Malviya Nagar and the Hindu scriptures will be taken to the Asamai Mandir in Faridabad. Following Kabul’s invasion by the Taliban, India has successfully evacuated 565 stranded people since August, as reported by the Government in Lok Sabha last week.

The Minister of State for External Affairs, V Muraleedharan informed the Parliament that the MEA is in contact with the Indians who are left behind in Afghanistan.

Gurnam Singh of the Karte Pawan Central Gurdwara revealed that approximately a hundred Sikhs and Hindus are still stranded in Afghanistan citing personal reasons. Others might return to India in the upcoming days depending upon the operationality of flights.
