On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Uttar Pradesh to inaugurate the Purvanchal Expressway in Karwal Kheri in the Sultanpur district.

According to an official announcement, the 340.8-kilometer-long six-lane Expressway will be opened at around 1:30 p.m.

Following the inauguration, the Prime Minister will see an air show by the Indian Air Force (IAF) on the 3.2 km long runway built on the expressway to allow Indian Air Force fighter planes to land and take off in an emergency.

Prime Minister Modi & Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will arrive at the airfield for the launch in a C-130 Hercules aircraft.

The Prime Minister will also speak at a public gathering in a nearby location.

The highway would connect Lucknow with Eastern Uttar Pradesh, travelling through the districts of Amethi, Sultanpur, Barabanki, Azamgarh, Mau, Ayodhya, Ambedkar Nagar, and Ghazipur.

According to the statement, “The Purvanchal Expressway would enhance the economic growth of eastern Uttar Pradesh, particularly the districts of Lucknow, Amethi, Ayodhya, Barabanki, Sultanpur, Mau, Ambedkar Nagar, Azamgarh, and Ghazipur.”

The expressway stretches from Chaudsarai village in Lucknow to Hydaria village on National Highway No. 31, 18 kilometres east of the UP-Bihar border.

The highway, which is six lanes wide and may be extended to eight lanes in the future, was built at an estimated cost of Rs 22,500 crore.

The route will also serve as an emergency runway for IAF aircraft and an airfield for fighter planes in the event of an emergency.

PM Modi lay the expressway’s foundation stone in Azamgarh in July 2018, over a year after the Yogi Adityanath government got into office in Uttar Pradesh.
