Tennis superstar Leander Paes joined the Trinamool Congress (TMC) today in line with other celebs including Nafisa Ali and Mrinalini Deshprabhu eyeing the Goa assembly elections to be held in February 2022. Bengal CM and mainspring of the TMC since 2011, Mamata Banerjee welcomes Leander Paes into the party.
Having retired from tennis, Paes intends to serve people through the channel of politics add value to the country. Speaking of Mamata Banerjee with deep reverence, he says “Didi (Ms Banerjee) is a true champion.
TMC in a tweet shares their delight in announcing the addition of Leander Paes to their party in presence of their chairperson, Mamata Banerjee. They are positive that every single individual in the country shall witness the much-awaited dawn of democracy.
Mamata is on a two-day visit to the poll-bound coastal region of Goa where she is anticipated to meet a multitude of people to discuss the expansion of her party’s horizons into the state. In pursuit of her national ambition, she formally declared that her party would contest from all the seats in the upcoming Goan assembly elections scheduled in February 2022.
Thrilled on welcoming the legendry Tennis player, Leander Paes, she said that Paes was like a younger brother to her. She had known him ever since she was appointed as the youth and sports minister of the country. She thanked Leander for joining the party while handing him over the party flag. Both Leander and Mamata addressed the media afterwards.

While reminiscing the old times when Mamata was the sports minister, Paes shared how she had always been supportive during her tenure. On being questioned about his plans for the state, he acknowledged the chance he got and was gratified to have received this opportunity. He shared that he chose Tennis for the last 30 years to make the country and its people proud. Going forward, he would attempt to make a difference to the youth.
Mamata Banerjee while taking a dig at the BJP mentioned that they call her “anti-Hindu” despite having zero authority to hand her a “character certificate”. She added that the letters TMC in her party name stand for temple, mosque and church.
She communicated her intentions were clear and that she aspires to fight the elections in Goa with the underlying objective of making the state “strong and self-sufficient”. She, furthermore stated that her party disapproves of dividing people along religious lines irrespective of whether they are Hindus, Muslims or Christians.
