Many fan-favourite doctors who later came to the scene including Mark Sloan (Eric Dane) Lexie Grey (Chyler Leigh) and Callie Torres (Sara Ramirez) all left and were at some stage replaced by new surgeons.

Knight left at the end of Season 5 partially because of an incident in which Washington’s costar called him a gay slur (Washington was fired for his remark). Heigl and Dempsey allegedly butted heads with Rhimes meanwhile. However much that comes down to this sort of thing is simply choosing to move on. Following her two-year Run, Oh decided to leave 9Ramirez did the same after Season 12. Both seem to be leaving on good terms.
