Kilifi court detains eight students over arson attack

A court in Kilifi has approved the detention of eight students of Godoma Boys Secondary School for 14 days following an arson attack.

The students will be held at Bamba police station as police complete investigations into the death of one students who was trapped inside the inferno at the school.

17-year-old Fadhil Hassan was trapped inside the 110 capacity dormitory in the Monday incident and was laid to rest at the Jomvu Muslim cemetery in Mombasa County.

Kilifi Senior Resident Magistrate Justus Kituku was informed by the investigating Officer, Corporal Humphrey Bunyasi that the eight students and many others could be behind the arson attack and those liable will face murder charges.

The DCI officer could not however complete his investigation within 24 hours as required by law thus the need to have more time.

It has also been revealed that the dormitory Fadhil was had been locked from outside raising questions into what the motive of those behind the attack.

Before the attack, form four students had demanded for sometime off to meet their parents before sitting for their KCSE exams.
