Brigid Kosgei’s world record set at the Chicago Marathon in 2:13:04 has on Sunday been smashed by Assefa Tigst of Ethiopia who finished the Berlin Marathon in 2:11:52.
The 19-year-old who is taking the gold medal to Ethiopia was received by her coach as he hugged her boots for helping her throughout the course. Kenya’s Sheila Chepkirui came in second.
At the same track, Eliud Kipchoge won the marathon in 2:02:42 making history as his fifth win in Berlin. Kipchoge before the marathon had an outstanding record of 15 wins in 18 marathons under his belt.

Speaking after the win, KIpchoge noted that he hoped to make history but things did not turn out as planned but he was grateful for the win altogether.
Congratulating Kipchoge was President William Ruto who noted that the win was historic for the limitless star.
“The Fifth masterful and historic performance in Berlin. Congratulations our limitless star Eliud Kipchoge for your golden staging in the BMW Berlin Marathon 2023.” said President Ruto
