El Chapo’s son Ovidio Guzman Lopez extradited to the US

Mexican authorities have extradited to the US Ovidio Guzman Lopez, the son of drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman where he will face drug related charges.

Interpol agents received Guzman from El Altiplano maximum security prison and flew in eight helicopters as confirmed on Friday.

The US first filed for an extradition request back in 2019 but his arrest failed and will now face smuggling of drugs including  fentanyl, methamphetamine, cocaine and marihuana.

Currently, his father famously known as El Chapo is facing life sentence in the US and after his absence, Guzman is reported to have been running a similar cartel dubbed Chapitos with his three brothers.

Guzman was first arrested in Culiacan in 2019 four years after his warrant of arrest had been issued.

His arrest saw a raging war between soldiers from the Sinaloa cartel and army personnel causing terror in the city. President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador then ordered his release so as to calm down the situation.

In January this year, he was arrested again as Mexican authorities denied his extradition to the US.
