Tana River County C.F.O arrested with Ksh 2.7M in cash

Ethics and Anti-Corruption (EACC) detectives have arrested the Chief Finance Officer (C.F.O) of the Tana River County government with Ksh 2.7 million in cash.

Mariam Abdalla Bunu was arrested at the Malindi International Airport traveling to Nairobi with unexplained and undeclared cash.

“EACC, on Tuesday, in collaboration with Malindi International Airport Police intercepted and arrested MARIAM ABDALLA BUNU, Ag Chief Officer for Finance in Tana River County Government, who was traveling to Nairobi with unexplained and undeclared Kes.2.7M in cash,” said EACC

According to the detectives, Mariam was grilled over the cash but could not explain its source before she was escorted to EACC Malindi offices to record a statement.

“EACC suspects that the amount, which the Chief Officer was unable to explain at the Airport and did not declare as required, was corruptly obtained from the Tana River County Government. She was escorted to EACC Malindi Offices where she recorded a statement,” said EACC
