Cecily Mbarire wins the Embu gubernatorial race

Cecily Mbarire has been confirmed as the new Embu governor in the tightly contested elections after garnering 108, 610 votes.

The Saturday morning results placed her closest rival Lenny Kivuti of the Development Empowerment Party (DEP) in the second position with 105,046 votes.

Speaking after the news, Mbarire thanked God for the victory as she applauded the security teams for ensuring that peace prevails during the election process.

“I want to thank God for giving us the win today. I feel humbled. I also thank our security agencies for ensuring there’s peace in the county all through the election process,” said the new Governor-elect.

Before the news, confrontation marred the tallying center as agents from her camp accused IEBC of intentionally delaying the declaration of results for the second day in a row.

She accused the Commission of planning to rig her out as they demanded an immediate release of the results before dawn.

Cecily Mbarire now becomes the seventh woman to be elected for the governor’s post after Glady Wanga of Homa Bay, Susan Kihika of Nakuru, Fatuma Achani of Kwale, Ann Waiguru of Kirinyaga, Wavinya Ndeti of Machakos and Kawira Mwangaza of Meru.
