Several people are feared dead after a bus belonging to Modern Coast plunged into River Nithi in Tharaka Nithi County.

According to media reports, the bus was travelling from Meru heading to Mombasa when the driver of the bus lost control before rolling and plunging into the river killing several people on the spot.

At the time of publication, rescue was underway as residents could be seen helping those trapped in the badly written off 57-seater bus.

Bodies of those involved in the Accident could be seen scattered at the river with those injured taken to PCEA Chogoria Mission Hospital and  Chuka County Referral Hospital for treatment.

One eye witness confirmed that the accident at 6:40 pm in what could have been a brake failure as the bus is reported to have been speeding before going down the river after hitting the guard rails.
