Government suspends planned countrywide traffic crackdown

The government has on Wednesday suspended a planned crackdown of PSV, personal vehicles and other commercial vehicles.

“Following fruitful and candid discussions between NPS led by DIG KPS Mr Edward Mbugua, NTSA led by DG Mr George Njagi and the Federation of Public Transport Sector officials led by their chairman Mr Edwin Mukabane,” Said National Police Service

Even though the government admits the importance of the sector in terms of economy building as service delivery, it agreed that the sector will be represented in future meetings.

“”The public transport strike that was scheduled to commence today 16th March 2022 is hereby suspended. The ongoing multi-agency crack down on non-compliant public transport vehicles has been suspended,”

“It was further agreed that the federation of public transport will be represented in future multi-agency operations” Said NPS

The planned crack aimed to target vehicles with unprescribed number plates as well as those without permits when using foreign number plates.

Illegal operators of vehicles such as probox who convert them to ferry passengers were also not left behind in the crackdown.
