Court releases activist Mutemi Kiama on Ksh 500K cash bail

Activist Mutemi Kiama has on Thursday been released on Ksh 500,000 cash bail following his arrest on Tuesday.

Magistrate Jane Kamau released the activist on bail after the prosecution failed to furnish the court with reasons as to why they should keep holding him.

Even though he has been granted bail, Kiama will be expected to meet the investigating officer everyday for the next 10 days as ordered by the court.

He has also been warned against posting anything to do with the country’s loan and the President for the next 10 days until when the case will be heard again.

Following his arrest, prosecution side cited that Kiama has violated the cybercrime act and issued a false statement about President Uhuru Kenyatta between the dates 5th and 6th in April.

According to the controversial post, activist Kiama noted that President is not authorized to transact on behalf of the country and that any business conducted by him then the country shall not be liable, now and in future.

The case will be mentioned again on April 20th.
