The United States has arrested the wife of former Mexico Drug Cartel Chief Joaquin Guzman well known as El Chapo on alleged involvement in International drug trafficking.
31-year-old Emma Coronel Aispuro was arrested in northern Virginia at Dulles International Airport and was expected to be charged on Tuesday.
It is however not clear why Emma was arrested in Washington given her dual U.S-Mexico citizenship.

Two years ago, Joaquin Guzman was charged with trafficking tons of drugs into the United States, a business that was successful through numerous murders and threats to fellow drug cartels.
He was however slapped with life imprisonment in 2019 and an additional 30-years due to his ‘evil’ deeds before he was sent to ADX Florence, a supermax prison in the U.S.
Coronel has also been accused to be behind her husband’s planned escape in Mexico back in 2015 when they dug a long mile tunnel to facilitate his escape. He was also accused to be behind his second planned escape from Mexico authorities
The arrest of Coronel is among the many arrests by the U.S that seek to end the distribution of drugs without fear of favour.
According to Reuters, former Mexico Minister of Defense Salvador Cienfuegos was arrested back in October on similar charges but was later released.
