Teachers on duty to answer to student unrest, says Magoha

School principals and teachers on duty will now be answerable to School fires and unrest as revealed by Education CS George Magoha.

The education CS noted how as a government they are running losses in millions to restore infrastructures destroyed during such incidents.

  • Police arrest 23 students following a botched arson attempt
  • Chesimasi High School in Bungoma closed over students unrest
  • KNUT opposes corporal punishment of students

Magoha was speaking as he posed to questions when the incident was happening, which teacher was on duty? and what were they doing about it? He called on the systems in schools to work as required.

The CS repeated his previous request to have corporal punishment reintroduced in schools to restore discipline among students following recent events in the country.

His utterances were played down by KNUT secretary-general Wilson Sossion who said that implementing it will endanger the lives of teachers in the country.

According to Sossion, the government should deploy the police to enforce discipline and that parents should play their part in enforcing discipline in their children.
