Holidaze: Christmas done differently

Christmas is usually a time of festive lights, Christmas carols blasting from every shop in the block and laughter spreading through the air like wildfire. The Board of Officials of Rotaract Club of SLIIT had a totally different vision to celebrate Christmas together. Instead of the usual bright lights and bustling music, the theme of this year Christmas get together. Pitch Black with a splash of lightning!

Believe it or not, this years’ theme wasn’t planned out. It just so happened to be that, on the 9th of December, the entire nation was facing a power outage, but that was never going to stop the board members from making the most out of an already eventful festive season.

With the Christmas Spirit beaming through everyone in attendance, the party commenced with a game of ‘Guess Who?’ Because barely anyone was visible in the dark, regardless of the attire (which was blue and white) which I will admit was a truly funny sight. All the while, the gifts for the game of Secret Santa were piling in!

With a little game of ‘What’s in the bag?!’ the most exciting part of the night was finally cast upon the board members. The entire room fell silent apart from the bustling rain going on outside. As soon as the gifts were revealed, the room lit up with joy and wonder as to who their Secret Santa was. The world came to a halt with the sheer excitement due to the gifts that everyone had gotten.

The gift giving was finally out of the way with the crowd still bamboozled, a glimmer of hope that the Christmas spirit was truly alive and well, the current finally returned and the party was well under way. Music rumbling against the walls of the house, the lights almost blinding and the vibes were immaculate.

With each board member bringing a dish whose name starts with the same letter of their first name, the dinner table was stacked from edge to edge, mouths were salivating, people were sweating, and their stomachs were screaming.

This Christmas surely won’t be one to forget but not for the usual reasons. This Christmas will be remembered for being celebrated in its own unique twist!
