Safe Haven – One Paw At A Time!

Project Safe Haven was organized by Rotaract Club of Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (SLIIT), and we were fortunate to collaborate and donate the funds collected to the Embark and the Veterinary Research Institute of Peradeniya. This selfless and heroic event commenced on October 28, 2023, in the Viharamahadevi Band Grounds and was set in motion by Rtr. Sayuru Bopitiya, Rtr. Anouk Abeyagunewardena, and Rtr. Ranuka Perera.

The project’s vital objective was to present an awareness session for animals in need and signify a commitment to foster a compassionate society that promotes Animal welfare. By hosting a charity carnival, it successfully accomplished its mission of providing a unique platform for spreading awareness and influence a positive outlook on the needs of these animals. Thus, giving life to their motive:

“Raising awareness for animal welfare, one paw at a time!”

Rotaract has consistently demonstrated its commitment to morality. However, this time, they have taken a step further in cherishing lives that need to be heard. As Anthony Douglas once quoted “If animals could speak, mankind would weep”. Life is truly a gift, but sharing this meaning of a gift is something that is done rarely. Nevertheless, Rotaract accepted this challenge and initiated the project with the utmost vibrance. They opened their adoption stall from 10 a.m. onward, where the innocent puppies had the chance to find their forever homes. Moreover, a grooming station was installed on the premises to ensure the health and well-being of the animals with the assistance of a veterinarian, and most excitingly, there was a ball pit area for the dogs to play and cherish their blessed lives.

Meanwhile, the Rotaractors organized various activities that captured the vivacious spirit of the fervent volunteers who joined on that day. These activities included hosting a Best Picture with Dog competition, awarding up to three places, and a Paw Print activity, capturing a memorable paw moment with their dogs.

All of these contributions led to the immense success of Safe Haven and concluded the project on a positive note. It opened the eyes of many to the innocent needs that have no voice to speak. We would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to the members of Rotaract who successfully organized this project and will ensure that the bond is consistently aligned with the principles every year.
