World Teachers’ Day

Humans are molded into what they become as adults by the adults they are influenced by when they are children, their parents and of course, their teachers. Teachers are often called your “second parents”, and of course, ever since the first day of school when you were clinging to your mom, crying and screaming, for 6 hours a day, 5 days a week you’ve been with your teachers for 13 years straight. And today is dedicated to celebrating our teachers, our mentors. It’s easy to forget just how important teachers can be in one’s life, so let’s take a day to appreciate them, and just how much they do for us.

When you’re learning under a talented teacher, even if they’re teaching the most boring subject ever (like geography) you would still care about what’s being taught simply because it’s being taught by them. Imparting academic knowledge is just one of many arduous tasks teachers perform.

School work aside, teachers will also guide you through any problems you have in life. A good teacher will make sure that you excel at school, but a great teacher will make sure you excel at life.  Personally speaking, almost everyone in my class during grades 10 & 11 went to our class teacher for relationship advice (most of those relationships failed but that’s probably because those kids didn’t have a clue what they were doing). Which goes to show that even when you’re unable to talk to your parents about your problems and your like-minded friends are as clueless as you are, you can still talk to an adult comfortably, without the fear of judgement.

Children are creatures brimming with amazing potential and often it is their teachers who will recognize and improve these prospects. Most children have a spark of curiosity embedded in them, and when the right teacher recognizes it, they will ignite it like a wildfire, perhaps creating the next Steve Jobs or Albert Einstein.

Teachers do so much more than can be put into words, and it is without a doubt the most important job of all of humanity. But the what’s tragic about the occupation of teaching is that it is not the one of the high paying jobs, so the fact that most teachers are in their occupation for the purpose of shaping young minds, even if their payment in return is measly, is quite noble.

Teachers are the potters who shape the complicated clay of young human minds into beautiful clay pots for beautiful human beings. All of us, as human beings, are eternally indebted to our teachers. Even if a single day is not nearly enough to sing the praises of our teachers, for today we shall.
