Rotaverse Day 2: Gods from the ashes

On the 27th of July, a dark day loomed upon the premises of SLIIT, with gusts that could blow trees over and downpours that needed the bravest of souls to cross through. However, that did not stop the latest generation of Rotaractors from showing up for Rotaverse Day 2!

Day 2 of Rotaverse promised to be thrilling and action-packed, and it delivered that and much more. It all started with none other than Rtr. IPP Lathushanan Koneswara conducting a very engaging session. As a means to hype up the crowd, Lathu proposed that we play a fun game that involved building trust within teams. A few words were spoken on how to build leadership within oneself, and Lathu made sure to inspire the new generation for the journey that lay ahead. However, his speech did not end without him saying his iconic line. But hey, what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, am I right?

With the “formalities” out of the way, the day started to amp up a little with some sports activities. To say that adrenaline was the name of the game was no understatement. The teams had to make a hakka, play “The floor is lava,” and even create costumes for a fashion runway! That fashion runway truly was a delight to witness, with the crowd going wild for the make-shift couples. With all that being said, the values of Rotaract were not lost, as the teams ensured not to leave any waste materials behind and cleaned up after themselves.

After the lunch break, a ground-breaking segment was held for our new Rotaractors. We were honoured to have members of the District Steering Committee in attendance on Day 2 of Rotaverse. In attendance were ADRRs Rtr. PP Sasitha Eldeniya, Rtr. PP Kavinda Senarathne, Rtr. IPP Elon Newton, and The Joint-Director of the Professional Development avenue of the Rotaract District 3220, Rtr. Oshadi Tennakoon.

They were there to hear our upcoming Rotaractors pitch project ideas. The teams piled in with original, influential, and inspiring ideas as the District Steering Committee members went back and forth with questions and provided advice to the teams on how to improve the plan of their respective projects.

To round out the day, awards were given out to the best three teams, and a special award was given out to the best coordinator through rotaverse. One of the teams performed musical pieces, along with a delightful performance from our own board members.

All in all, Rotaverse proved to be an influential step for our newbies as they got to learn the inner workings of Rotaract, make long-lasting connections, enhance their skills, and take their first leap into a journey where the destination is unknown!
