On a slow but eventful Saturday morning, the curtains rose on Project Synergist. It was a training session for the newly sworn-in Board of Officials of the Rotaract Club of SLIIT, promising two days of growth and adventure. Nestled in the charming Olivia Bungalow in Wattala, this project was more than just a training session; it was an opportunity for the board to forge deep connections and create lasting memories before the year’s journey began.
The first day, July 8th, unfolded with an air of anticipation. Board Members mingled, acquainting themselves with one another and exploring the picturesque venue that would be their home for the next two days. Soon after, the transformative activities that would shape the future leaders of the club commenced. Energized by their progress, the teams gathered for a delightful lunch, savoring both the food and the camaraderie.
Post-lunch, the board donned their official T-shirts, ready to capture the essence of their unity through a photoshoot. Each member posed individually, while the various avenues of the club immortalized their teamwork with group shots alongside the top board. The schedule flowed seamlessly, leaving no room for delays.
Straight after the photoshoot, our President, Rtr. Manisha Alwis, warmly welcomed the team to Project Synergist and shared the expectations she has for the year. Right after her, our resident Sergeant at arms, Rtr. Dinal Siriwardana, addressed the value of discipline and unity within the club and within the board itself.
To set the tone for the year ahead, our beloved Immediate Past President (IPP), Rtr. Lathushanan Koneswara, delivered an inspiring motivational session. He guided us on the path to success and emphasized the need for a smooth and efficient workflow within the club. Adding a touch of fun, he introduced a game called “How’s yours?” that not only entertained but also strengthened the bonds between board members, fostering a delightful atmosphere of camaraderie.
But what about the eagerly anticipated team activities? Fear not, for they were about to commence. The teams took center stage, presenting captivating introductions of past projects undertaken by the Rotaract Club of SLIIT before 2021. Their displays were a delightful blend of entertainment and creativity, leaving no room for disappointment.
From that point forward, the day only grew more vibrant. It all began with a lively pool party, where board members eagerly splashed into the water. As for me, yours truly, I had a near-drowning experience that left a lasting mark—though I dare say it was worth every second. A delectable three-course meal, accompanied by seemingly endless starters, followed. In the midst of the feast, spontaneous bursts of song erupted, quickly evolving into a joyous dance party. Finally, as night fell, everyone gathered for dinner before “retiring to their beds”. The melodies and positive energy permeated the night, with some succumbing to slumber while others reveled in the moment. A few adventurous souls even ventured to the rooftop, lighting a lantern that illuminated both chaos and serenity.
Day 1 of Synergist proved to be an exhilarating journey. It birthed cherished memories, forged unbreakable bonds, and cultivated a unity that surpassed all expectations. A single thought echoed through the minds of each board member: “An experience that will never be forgotten.” As I write this, it’s currently 4:05 a.m., and sleep has eluded me. Was it all worth it? Every sleepless second. Let’s just say that Day 2 of Synergist couldn’t come any sooner!
