In fact, the reason for this situation is that the Commonwealth Games is a friendly multi-sport event held once in four years among the athletes of the Commonwealth Nations.
The main purpose of this is to unify the Commonwealth countries through a prestigious event based on the basic values of humanity, equality, and destiny. The aim is to encourage female athletes to compete in the spirit of fair play while calling these sporting events “Friendly Games”.
After the 1928 Olympics, international athletes did not have the opportunity to participate in friendly sporting events until four years later. The first Commonwealth Games, then known as the British Commonwealth Games, was held in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada in 1930. Four hundred athletes from 11 countries entered the first Commonwealth Games. England, Scotland, Wales, and Ireland as well as Australia, New Zealand, Bermuda, British Guyana, and South Africa were present for this purpose. Sports such as field and athletics, swimming, rowing, boxing, wrestling etc. were also included here in which Britain took the leading position.
Most of the major Commonwealth countries have hosted the Games since Hamilton, Canada’s first host city. Canada hosted the Games again in 1954 in Vancouver, in 1978 in Edmonton and in 1994 in Victoria. Australia has also hosted the Games on four occasions, with Sydney in 1938, Perth in 1962, Brisbane in 1982 and Melbourne in 2006, with Malaysia hosting in 1998. Para athlete Palita Bandara won the silver medal in the men’s discus throw F42-44/61-64, the bronze medal was won by Yupun Abaykon, the men’s 100m running event, the men’s 55kg heavy lifter Dilanka Isuru Kumara Yagoda, the women’s freestyle. 57kg weight class wrestler Nethmi Poruthotage also won the day. සුවහසක් දෙස් විදෙස් ක්‍රීඩා ලෝලීන්ගේ හදවත සොරාගත් පොදු රාජ්ය මණ්ඩලීය ක්‍රීඩා උළෙලේ අවස්ථාවකි. සැබවින්ම එය ලක් මාතාවට තත්ත්පර කිහිපයකදී ලබා දුන් පදක්කම් දෙකකටත් වඩා සහෝදරත්වයේ ජයග්‍රා‍හී සිංහලීලාව ලොවට පෙන්වූ මොහොතකි. සැබවින්ම මෙම සංධර්භයට හේතු සාධක වූ පොදු රාජ්ය මණ්ඩලීය ක්‍රීඩා උළෙල යනු පොදු රාජ්ය මණ්ඩලීය ජාතීන්ගේ ක්‍රීඩක ක්‍රීඩිකාවන් අතර වසර හතරකට වරක් සිදු කරන මිත්‍රශිලී බහු ක්‍රීඩා ඉසව්වකි.
මනුෂත්වය, සමානාත්මතාවය සහ ඉරණම යන මූලික සාරධර්ම පාදක කරමින් පොදු රාජ්ය මණ්ඩලීය රටවල් සිදු කරනු ලබන කීර්තිමත් උත්සවයක් හරහා එකී රටවල් එක්සේසත් කිරීම මෙහි ප්‍රධාන අරමුණයි. මෙම ක්‍රීඩා ඉසව්වන් “හිතෛෂී ක්‍රීඩා” ලෙස හඳුන්වන අතරම සාධාරණ ක්‍රීඩාවේ ආත්මයෙන් තරඟ කිරීමට ක්‍රීඩිකාවන් දිරිමත් කිරීම මෙහි අරමුණු කර ඇත.
1928 ඔලිම්පික් උළෙලෙන් පසුව ඉන් නැවත වසර හතරක් වන තෙක් අන්තර්ජාතික ක්‍රීඩක ක්‍රීඩිකාවන්ට සුහදශීලී ක්‍රීඩා ඉසව් වලට සහභාගි වීමට අවස්ථාවක් නොලැබේ. එවකට බ්‍රිතාන්‍ය ආදී රාජ්ය ක්‍රීඩා ලෙස හැඳින් වූ පළමු පොදු රාජ්ය මණ්ඩලීය ක්‍රීඩා උළෙල 1930 දී කැනඩාවේ ඔන්ටාරියෝහි හැමිල්ටන් හිදී පැවැත්විණි. පළමු ක්‍රීඩා උළෙලට රටවල් 11 කින් ක්‍රීඩක ක්‍රීඩිකාවන් හාරසියයක් ඇතුළත්විය. මේ සඳහා එංගලන්තය, ස්කොට්ලන්තය, වේල්සය හා අයර්ලන්තය යන රටවල් මෙන්ම ඕස්ට්‍රේලියාව, නවසීලන්තය, බර්මියුඩා, බ්‍රිතාන්‍ය ගයානා, දකුණු අප්‍රිකාව යන රටවල් පැමිණ සිටියහ. මෙහිදී ජවන සහ පිටිය මළල ක්‍රීඩාද, පිහිනුම් තරඟ, ඔරු පැදීම, බොක්සිං, මල්ලවපොර ආදී ක්‍රීඩා ද ඇතුළත් විය. මෙහි ප්‍රමුඛ ස්ථානය ලබාගත්තේ බ්‍රිතාන්‍යයි.
