Ayurveda For Conception And Pregnancy

Conception happens within a year of the normal sexual union without the use of contraceptives. When this does not happen, medical attention becomes necessary.  By improving general health relaxing the mind and taking steps to nourish the reproductive system and nervous system.

Ayurveda places great emphasis on a woman being nourished in body, mind, and in spirit. More importance should be given to her emotional happiness as this can make the greatest influence on the baby in the womb. It is therefore important to prepare the health of the parents to be able to produce a healthy progeny.

Ayurveda believes in purifying the body to eliminate toxins and impurities from the body and strengthen it by nourishing diet, eating habits, and a relaxed and healthy lifestyle. Yoga, meditation, and other spiritual pursuits can help in maintaining a healthy balanced mind.

The reproductive tissue is called Shukra Dhatu in Ayurveda. They play a vital role in the reproductive process by creating the natural urge for sex, secreting the reproductive fluids, helping in orgasm, and facilitating conception.

Ayurveda Treatments for Conception

Ayurveda has many effective ways to promote fertility in both men and women. Ayurveda suggests foods and herbs for strengthening the reproductive organs and enhancing fertility.   Most diets are recommended that can improve libido and general health. The following should be included in the diet to create the optimal health condition for conception.

 Herbs: Ashwagandha, Bala, Kapikachu, Gokshura, and Shatavari are known to be very effective.

Dairy products: Milk, ghee, and cream are helpful.

Nuts: Almonds, Pumpkin seeds walnut, etc.

Fruits: Dates, Grapes Pomegranates, etc.

Ayurvedic Medicines for Conception

Ayurveda treatments are based on the body constitution of the partners namely Vata, pitta, or Kapha.  Balancing these doshas helps in removing the blockages and strengthening the organs so that the body returns to a healthy state. Then herbal medicines and treatments are recommended for clearing the obstructions and toning the muscles. Ayurveda also considers the emotional health of both parents is of prime importance.

Ayurveda advises the parents to undergo pre-conception therapy known as Vajikarana. This is purification as well as a personalized rejuvenation regimen that ensures the production of optimum quality and quantity of sperm and ovum. Ayurvedic treatment focuses on diet and in the case of improving fertility sweet, nourishing foods are recommended.

Ayurvedic herbs that are useful in helping in conception are Shatavari, Triphala, Nettle, Raspberry Leaf, Withania, Chaste Tree, Red Clover, and False unicorn root, etc as they are rich in vitamins and minerals and promote the balance of hormones.  They are easily assimilated into the system to strengthen the organs. Tonics such as Ashoka and Shatavari are recommended to regularize menstruation to improve female fertility.

Ashwagandha is recommended for males in the form of powders made from the roots. Other helpful herbs are Kapi Kachu and Sariba. Aloe Vera juice can nourish the tissues in the reproductive system.

  • Tea made of organic fennel seeds, saffron, and fresh ginger is helpful.
  • To prepare the uterus for conception rose water can be taken regularly.
  • Triphala is advised to promote digestion and absorption of nutrients by cleansing and healing the system.
