A North Carolina woman recently told the world about the insane journey she embarks on to get to her job on the Upper West Side.

Kaitlin Jorgensen, 30, is a hair stylist who lives in Charlotte and works at a local salon which she gets to by taking an Uber to the Charlotte Airport, a 1.5 hour flight to LaGuardia, a bus to Manhattan, and a train to the Upper West Side – totaling about 600 miles.

On commuting days, she wakes up at 5:30 a.m. and arrives to her job at the Scott J. Aveda Salon at 72nd and Columbus Avenue around 10:30 a.m., she shared on TikTok.

The multi-city hair stylist told NBC New York that she’s able to do this by avoiding pricey hotels and New York City rents, which are about twice as expensive as those in Charlotte. “I stay at my friend Jenni’s house,” she told the publication. “I pay her a little bit for rent so it works out both ways that’s one of the things that made it really affordable to do this back and forth, I don’t have to get a hotel every time.”

The former New Yorker moved to Charlotte about a year ago to “be closer to [her] boyfriend and enjoy a slower pace of life,” Jorgensen told the New York Post. “I only work six days a month in the city and four days a month at a salon in Charlotte,” she told the outlet. “I nap on the plane traveling both ways, and I have a lot of personal time between trips.”

She typically arrives an hour-and-a-half before her first client, and on the day the video was taken, she got through nine appointments.

According to the city, there are about 64,000 ‘super commuters’ who travel from outside the tri-state area to work in the city.
