Police arrived a bit after 4 p.m. to find an individual “firing shots while operating a black BMW northbound.” Cops also said the suspect was driving recklessly by “going back and forth over the median.”

Officers pursued the subject onto the West Side Highway which led to the closure of the George Washington Bridge and “a few roadways,” the NY Post reported.

The male suspect was arrested – initially on charges of Reckless Endangerment and “Flee Officer in Motor Vehicle” – but when his car was searched, the NYPD found “two paintball guns, multiple paintballs, three CO2 tanks and three magazines.” He is also being charged with Criminal Possession of a Firearm.

“In some states like New Jersey and New York, where a paintball gun is considered to be a weapon, you are required to have a permit or license,” according to paintballusa.com. “In general, those states that consider a paintball gun as a weapon will most likely require you to have a license before owning one.”

And, “According to New York State law, a deadly weapon is defined as… Any loaded weapon from which a shot, readily capable of producing death or other serious physical injury may be discharged…” (link).

CO2 tanks are frequently used for making nitrous oxide (also known as “whippets” or “laughing gas”).

The arrested has been identified as 27-year-old David Feliz, a resident of Hudson Heights.
