The Upper West Side Coalition will host ‘Standing Up For Our Upper West Side Seniors’ at the Goddard Riverside Community Center (593 Columbus Avenue at 88th Street) on Tuesday, October 17.
Doors will open at 4:30 p.m. and the program will run from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. It will also be live-streamed here.
“Hear a presentation by the NYPD on Public Safety and from non-profit service providers and elected officials about efforts to support and enrich the lives of Upper West Side seniors,” a flyer for the event reads.

The forum will begin with a presentation by Crime Safety Officer Sarah Frankel (24th Precinct) who will discuss a number of issues:
- Email and phone scams; two seniors were recently conned out of $9,500 as part of a bail fraud scheme.
- Mail box fishing and check washing; 27 suspects were recently indicted for mail-related crimes, with some defendants facing up to 20 years.
- Package theft; an ongoing issue at UWS buildings.
A number of non-profits which offer senior programming will also be making presentations: Goddard Riverside, Project FIND, West Side Federation for Senior & Supportive Housing (WSFSSH), the New-York Historical Society and more. (By the way: a new restaurant called Clara will ‘soon’ be replacing Storico, which closed its location at the NYHS earlier this year; we’ll provide details on that in the coming days).
Elected officials including State Senator Hoylman-Sigal, Council Members Brewer & Abreu, and State Assembly Members Rosenthal & O’Donnell will also be in attendance.
