Prepping Rumsey Playfield for Central Park SummerStage 2023, running from June through September.
SummerStage is back for another season of live music and dance from around the world. Opening the festivities at Central Park‘s Rumsey Playfield with a free show on June 10 is St. Paul and the Broken Bones, an eight-piece soul band from Alabama. Joining them for this free, first-come first-serve event are Brooklyn-based Say She She, Mwenso & The Shakes and DJ Alisa Ali.

Getting things going ahead of the official kick off at Central Park’s Rumsey Playfield are American folk phenoms Indigo Girls and Larkin Poe on June 4. We’re excited for Buddy Guy on his ‘Damn Right Farewell Tour’ on June 18. This could be your last chance to see the 86-year-old blues behemoth. Rolling Stone Magazine has Guy as the 23rd greatest guitarist who’s ever lived.
This season of SummmerStage will celebrate the 50th anniversary of hip-hop. On Juneteenth (June 19), hip-hop royalty drops into Central Park with one of the greatest hip-hop producers ever, DJ Premier, along with Grandmaster Flash – whose rap group, Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five – were the first to ever be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2007. This is a free event.

One stand-out ticketed event includes Michel Franti & Spearhead bringing their unique blend of hip-hop, reggae and funk to SummerStage on June 28. Then, we’ve got one of the biggest crybabies in music history, Noel Gallagher (formerly of Oasis), coming with his Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds outfit on July 10. Joining them are 90s rock mainstays Garbage. Metric, the rock-duo from Canada, is the opening act in this rather stacked lineup, whether you like it or not.

Jimmy Eat World and Manchester Orchestra will grace SummerStage for their co-headlining tour on August 23. Then Regina Spektor – who got her own Regina Spektor Day in New York City on June 11, 2019 (compliments of Bill de Blasio) – comes aboard on August 24. British house and techno icon Carl Cox will close SummerStage with the final ticketed event (as it stands now) on September 30. Should be a heater.
