Michelin-Starred Monte Carlo Restaurant Expanding to UWS

Signage outside 43 West 64th Street between Columbus Avenue and Central Park West touts that Rampoldi New York is “coming soon–2022.” A BizJournals story from 2021 notes the Italian restaurant, which originally opened in Monte Carlo in 1946 and got its first Michelin star in 2021, was originally slated to open last spring.

“At this time, we have no comments to make to you or the organization you represent,” said Alex Teisanu, CEO of Monte Carlo Hospitality Group, in a statement to ILTUWS. The company also runs Casa Limone in Midtown and Atlantic Grill just a block away – a restaurant they acquired in 2021. We asked if Teisanu could share any details about what has caused the delay but haven’t heard anything since publishing.

Rampoldi is surely something to be excited about. A July 2022 writeup in Hello Monaco that reviewed Michelin-star restaurants on the French Riviera wrote that Rampoldi “happens to be the first 100% organic restaurant distinguished by the Michelin guide. Its Chef Antonio Salvatore is famous for both his classical recipes and original, signature dishes. Originally from southern Italy, Salvatore has always extensively travelled for his work.” It also points out that most of their ingredients are locally sourced in the nearby towns of Menton and San Remo, but others are “specially” brought from Southern Italy.

Chef Antonio Salvatore is currently working at Atlantic Grill.

Rampoldi’s Monte Carlo menu features cold starters like a homemade foie gras with confit of red onions and figs and a “vitello tonnato” with roast veal, tuna sauce, capers and pickles. The Rampoldi bouillabaisse is a cornerstone rock fish soup with clams, mussels, calamari, shellfish and their fish of the day, along with potato, saffron and star anise.

The menu also features lineups of tartares to carpaccios and homemade pastas like their risotto with ceps, seasonal mushrooms and black truffle. You’ll notice black truffle seems to be a popular ingredient, which you can also find in their chef’s special truffle pizza with mozzarella cream and seasonal black truffle.

We’ll provide an update once we know more.
