How to Make a Christmas Wreath out of Old Military Uniforms

I apologies about the super blurry pictures! These pictures were taken a very long time ago with a very bad camera, but the quality of the product is still amazing in the end and the pictures still get the point across!

What You Need:

  • An Old Military Uniform
  • A Wire Coat Hanger
  • Scissors

1. Start this project by cutting the uniform into strips about an inch or two thick (your preference on how you want the Wreath to look) and a few inches long. The length of the strips will mean the difference between a bushy wreath with a small hole in the center, or a thin wreath with a large hole in the middle. Just make sure the strips are long enough to tie around the coat hanger!

2. Once there are plenty of strips cut from the uniform, start tying them onto the coat hanger! This is very time consuming, but the end result is worth it! As you’re tying them on, remember to keep pushing them up to one side to ensure you get as many tied onto the coat hanger as possible. This will cause your wreath to look full and bushy!

3. When you get to the end, it should look like the picture below. It doesn’t matter if all of the strands aren’t the EXACT same size, as the strips you tie on will crowd each other out and make it look bushy.

This is a fun craft to do with kids or friends to show your appreciation for the Military this holiday season! You could honestly do this project with any fabric, but at the time of making these the Army had just switched over to their new uniforms and my father had a bunch of uniforms that were no longer in use.

My mother still hangs this wreath up on her door, even after seven years. The color has faded, and it looks mostly white now, but we still cherish it as the first Christmas Wreath I ever made. (And admittedly the only one I’ve ever made.)

COMMENT BELOW! What Christmas projects are you working on this year? How are you getting in the Holiday Spirit? Have you ever made anything our of old Military Uniforms? And as always my lovely readers, smile, have an amazing day, and enjoy some Christmas Crafts!
