I Have A New Puppy

Tags: puppy brian

I have a puppy! Omg, I have a puppy! All of these years of rescuing/acquiring dogs and I have never had a Puppy.

The plan wasn’t a puppy but for years, I have been dealing with the stress of bringing dogs in (as rescues and for petsitting) and worrying about the safety of our cats. And, yes, losing a couple of them to those dogs. Sigh. I’m tired of it. I became obsessed with the idea of starting with a puppy so it would be raised around the cats. However, I didn’t really think that I could convince Brian. Well, not without a lot of work, ha.

And one night, I was innocently (sort of) on facebook looking at animals and I saw a post about a puppy that a woman had gotten a couple of days prior before getting a call about a job. It was bad timing, for sure and she knew that she couldn’t properly take care of a puppy if she was working full-time so she posted him. She was just asking for the amount that she had paid ($40) and lots of people were expressing interest. She wasn’t really asking any of them questions which made me nervous and also gave me an excuse to pursue him further. Anyway, of course, I became one of the people asking about him; possibly before talking to Brian….Oops.

Keeping My Promises

I need to add that my son reminded me the other day that, years ago, I had promised him that when we bought a house, I would get him a Lab. He had been wanting one for a long time. So, as luck would have it, this was a Lab mix.

After I was basically first in line for this puppy, I talked to Brian. We negotiated. I explained that he couldn’t come for a trial because she had to re-home immediately. I suggested that he come home for the night and I contact (and vet) the other interested people if it didn’t work out. Brian thought that was fair so I excitedly messaged the lady to tell her.

Puppy Time!

So the next morning, I headed out to get this puppy. I had no idea if this was a good idea and felt sick to my stomach, but I was off, anyway.

But, as you can imagine, one look at him and I only felt excitement.

I giggled all the way home and called a friend to giggle in her ear, as well.

When I got home, I was trying to patiently wait for Brian to wake up so I could introduce him. It felt like forever, but I’m sure it was only a few minutes. Anyway, I left puppy with Antwan and went outside to distract myself. And while I was outside, I got a text from Brian. It said “yes.” I had no idea what he was talking about. I replied with “yes?” and headed inside.

That’s when I found him holding the puppy.

Again, he said “yes.”

Apparently, one look at him had also put Brian’s fears to rest. And just like that, we had a puppy!

Puppy Life

If you have ever had a puppy, you probably know what came next.

I found out how much work they are. haha! And the teething!?

But, I sure do love him. I even love his anime name that the kids decided was just perfect for him…Rimuru.
