2022 TVS Apache RTR 160 Launched in India, Gets new features

In recent times, TVS was keenly focusing more on the new-generation iterations of Apache with four-valve engines. However, the bread-and-butter two-valve Apache Rtr 160 continued to be on sale without many significant updates in the same duration. TVS has now given this highest-selling iteration of the Apache a small update, which has brought in a few new features, colour options and a small increase in power.

Visual and Feature Updates

While TVS has retained the design of the previous iteration of the Apache RTR 160 for this updated version, the motorcycle now gets a new all-LED headlamp, which is encased within the same housing as before. This headlamp also gets a revised design for the daytime running LEDs at its upper corners. Even the tail lamp now gets revised LED inserts, which replace the almost 16-year-old LED tail lamp design, which debuted with the first-ever Apache RTR 160 in 2006.

The other significant change in the new Tvs Apache Rtr 160 is the inclusion of a new fully-digital instrument console, which replaces the old part-digital instrument console with an analogue tachometer of the previous model. This instrument console, which has been shared with the Apache RTR 160 4V, also features Bluetooth connectivity as an option. The motorcycle now also gets three riding modes – Sport, Urban and Rain. The new model will also be available in new colour options and graphics.

Mechanical Updates

TVS has retained the four-stroke, single-cylinder, air-cooled, 160cc engine, which now produces a maximum power output of 16.04 bhp @ 8,750 rpm and a peak torque output of 13.9 Nm @ 7,000 rpm. These figures are higher than those claimed by the previous iteration’s engine, which used to produce 15.53 bhp @ 8,400 rpm of power and 13.85 Nm @ 7,000 rpm of torque. The new version is also lighter than the model it replaces, by almost 2 kg. The reduction in weight and increase in power output has resulted in a better power-to-weight ratio for the new Apache RTR 160.

Price

The mildly updated TVS Apache RTR 160 has come in three variants – one with a rear drum, one with a rear disc and one with a rear disc and Bluetooth connectivity. While the rear drum variant is priced at Rs 1,17,790, the more premium variant with a rear disc brake is priced at Rs 1,21,290. The range-topping variant, which gets a rear disc brake and Bluetooth connectivity, is priced at Rs 1,24,590 (all prices ex-showroom, India).

Competition

With the revised prices, the new TVS Apache RTR 160 is now closer to the prices of its sibling, the Apache RTR 160 4V. The gap between these two motorcycles is now only Rs 1500-4000. In addition, the new TVS Apache RTR 160 also competes with Bajaj Pulsar N160, Bajaj Pulsar NS 160, Hero Xtreme, Yamaha FZ-S and Suzuki Gixxer 150.
