Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S Coupe launched in India, 48V EQ Boost Mild-hybrid System

In the string of its commitment of launching performance oriented products in India, Mercedes Benz has brought in the all new Amg Gle 63 S Coupe SUV in India. Launched at a price point of Rs. 2.07 crore (ex-showroom, India), the Mercedes Amg Gle 63 S Coupe is now the range topping version of GLE SUV.

Exterior

Based on the GLE 53 coupe SUV, the new GLE 63 S Coupe gets a string of visual enhancements, like any other AMG model from Mercedes Benz. There is a new ‘Panamerica’ front grille with vertical slats, a large front splitter finished in chrome and new black air intakes on the front bumper, all of which make the front end look sporty and aggressive.

The Mercedes AMG GLE 63 S Coupe retains the sloping down roofline and sharply raked rear windscreen of the GLE 53 Coupe, which gives it a very sporty stance. On the side, the biggest visual differentiator is the presence of larger 22-inch alloy wheels. At the back, the SUV has got a couple of special bits in the form of sporty black rear diffuser and twin-exhaust outlets on either side.

Interior

The Mercedes AMG GLE 63 S Coupe retains the entire cabin layout with the regular GLE 53 Coupe. However, to make the cabin feel more special, Mercedes Benz has spruced it up with AMG-specific premium elements like three-spoke steering wheel with brushed aluminium touches, aluminium paddle shifters, Nappa leather upholstery and AMG badges at many places. There are a number of optional enhancers for the cabin, including carbon fiber finished bits.

Rest assured, the Mercedes AMG GLE 63 S Coupe gets the twin screen layout with two 12.3-inch fully colored screens for instrument console and touchscreen infotainment system encased in a single housing. The cabin also gets trapezoidal AC vents and a raised center console, the latter of which gets raised bran handles and brushed aluminium touches as well.

Powertrain

The biggest highlight of the Mercedes AMG GLE 63 S Coupe over the regular GLE 53 Coupe has to be this – the more powerful motor which the latter houses in under its hood. The new SUV is powered by a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 petrol engine, which makes 612 bhp of maximum power and 850 Nm of maximum torque. The engine is paired to a 9-speed automatic gearbox.

The Mercedes AMG GLE 63 S Coupe is the first model in the AMG lineup from Mercedes Benz in India to get a 48V EQ Boost mild-hybrid system. Apart from marginally increasing the fuel economy, it also gives an additional pump of 22 bhp of power and 250 Nm of torque, whenever in demand. Apart from the mild-hybrid system, the powertrain is further assisted by cylinder deactivation technology, 4MATIC all-wheel drive system and seven different drive modes. Also offered as part of standard package are air suspension and active roll stabilization system.

Competition

The new GLE 63 S Coupe takes on the new brigade of high-end performance oriented SUVs, including Porsche Cayenne Coupe, Audi RS Q8 and BMW X5 M.
