Mercedes AMG E53 and E63 S Arrive in India, Prices Start at Rs. 1.02 Crore

Mercedes AMG has lifted off the covers from the performance-oriented duo, the E53 and E63 S in India. Based on the standard wheelbase version of the Mercedes Benz E-Class, the E53 and E63 S get a host of cosmetic differences and more powerful engines over the long wheelbase version of the E-Class sold in India. While the E53 has a starting price of Rs. 1.02 crore, that of the E63 S is Rs. 1.70 crore (both prices ex-showroom, India). With these two new models, the AMG lineup of Mercedes now accounts to 11 models in total.

2021 Mercedes AMG E53: Details

The Mercedes AMG E53 is the more affordable and less powerful AMG version of the E-Class. It features the updated design of the long wheelbase E-Class launched in India, but with the host of traditional AMG touches like sportier looking front and rear bumpers, AMG-grille with vertical slats, flatter brake lights, thin boot-lip spoiler and sportier looking alloy wheels.

The cabin of the Mercedes AMG E53 shares its layout with the standard E-Class, but has a different leather upholstery and additional bits like two-spoke AMG steering wheel with haptic controls, bigger aluminium paddle shifters and front AMG sports seats. Apart from these, the cabin also gets high-tech features like 12.3-inch full TFT instrument console and 12.3-inch MBUX touchscreen infotainment system, the latter of which gets displays for Android Auto, Apple Carplay and 360-degree parking camera.

The Mercedes AMG E53 shares its 3.0-Liter Twin Turbo inline six-cylinder petrol engine with the GLE 53 coupe, which here produces maximum power and torque outputs of 435 bhp and 520 Nm respectively. In addition, there is an EQ Boost function, which as a part of the 48V mild hybrid system, increases the power output by 22 bhp and torque output by 250 Nm. The car gets a 9-speed automatic gearbox, 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive system, air controlled AMG Ride control+ suspension as standard.

2021 Mercedes AMG E63 S: Details

In terms of looks, the Mercedes AMG E63 S looks similar to the E53, however, to distinguish itself from the latter, the E63 S gets different front bumper design and 20-inch alloy wheels (which are equally sporty looking) and squared exhaust tips and new diffuser at the back.

While it retains the rest of the exterior and interior designs with the features from the less powerful E53, it gets a completely different powertrain in the form of a 4.0-liter twin turbo V8 engine. Coupled to a 9-speed automatic gearbox, this engine makes 612 bhp of maximum power and 850 Nm of maximum torque, thus being equally powerful as the pre-facelift model which was on sale earlier. Like the E53, the E63 S too gets 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive system and air controlled AMG Ride control+ suspension as standard. However, in addition, it gets cylinder deactivation technology for optimum fuel efficiency.

Competition

While the Mercedes AMG E53 has no direct competitor to it, the more powerful Mercedes AMG E63 S has its direct rivals in the form of BMW M5 Competition (Rs. 1.62 crore) and Audi RS7 (Rs. 1.94 crore).
