How Google Is Kicking Their @$$
Showdown: Google VS The Entrepreneur
There is a war going on. The war is Google vs the entrepreneurs of the world and it
seems like the entrepreneurs are fighting a losing battle.
I am speaking of course, of entrepreneurs around the world that utilize the world wide web as
a method of earning income. Google’s little brother, YouTube, seems to be doing just fine as
Google is so fond of it. However we are talking about the knock-down, drag-out brawl fest that
is happening every day between Google and new entrepreneurs everywhere.
At first it seems as if there is no hope against this unstoppable Goliath, but there is one thing that
seems to serve as its Kryptonite. Father time.
What’s That You Say?
Being an entrepreneur that utilizes a website for at least part of his income, I know firsthand how
the war is going. I of course do everything I am supposed to do, on page and off page SEO,
making sure my website is as fast as possible, utilizing a strong and steady backlinking campaign,
making sure the overall size of my website remains as compact and as small as possible,
optimizing images and compacting the database, utilizing a WordPress theme that is constructed
for speed as well as mobile usability, etc.. I also try to publish strong, useful content that is as
complete in detail as it is long in length as often as possible. I do all of this with the hope that I
will rank for the long tail keywords that I am trying to use to raise the overall domain authority(DA)
and subsequent search engine rank of my website. Google does take into consideration
all of these factors, although it seems lately that it is considering an aspect which we really do
not have control over. The factor I am talking about is none other than time itself.
Am I just blowing smoke?
I do all of this optimization on my website as I said to try to rank higher and build traffic. The
problem is that even though I do all of these things, I can still only raise the rank of my website
by a certain amount. My website Ranking which I have been tracking since its Inception, seems
to be absolutely linear. It does not matter if I do one thing or 12 things more than the other, all
it does is hurt my ranking when I do not. What I mean is this: I can do everything I
possibly can as far as SEO and content creation are concerned and the rate of increase doesn’t
change. The things that I have noticed since Google’s core update of May 2020, is that Google has
decided to really put emphasis on a couple of things…
Factors
- Page Speed has become a very big indicator for website ranking. It has in the past as well, but it becomes more important with every update. There are huge corporations that can afford to pay for thousands and thousands of dollars worth of server farm support and content delivery networks and programmers to do edge scripting and so on and so forth. The problem is that new entrepreneurs do not have a large budget for this, thus making it extremely difficult for them in the beginning.
- Google is a huge proponent of Fresh Content. It almost seems as if it doesn’t necessarily care as much of the quality of content as compared to the quantity. Now I know this is incorrect, don’t get me wrong, but because Google now looks so favorably on Fresh content it just seems this way. The people in the industry that are huge on website ranking, such as for instance, Neil Patel, now have people working for them that update their websites daily. The presence of updated content, as much as fresh content, has become a big selling point to Google. Now how, as a new entrepreneur, especially one that has a full-time job expected to keep up with the big corporations?
The Page Experience Update
Another issue that Google is introducing is an idea that is not even here yet. Google announced
recently that they are going to have another core update next year. Now because of their
regular update schedule, this is not a surprise, but this time they are doing something that
they have never done before. Google is giving us an idea of what this update is going to entail. The
company says its reasoning for this is because of the Covid Pandemic, but knowing Google I am
sure there is more to it. So far it is being called the ‘page experience’ update. What this means
is that if your site is not designed for the optimal reader experience, your ranking is going to
take an absolute beating. Now you might say that this concept is actually a good thing from
an outside perspective right? Even though the obvious answer is yes, you also have to consider
how this will affect entrepreneurs as a whole. What I mean is this: If you have any type of
JavaScript or render-blocking code such as a pop-up, code used to help entrepreneurs gather
followers and subscribers, your rankings are going to suffer. We don’t even know all of the
effects of this future core update. Hopefully when we do we are ready, because
more and more of the tools that entrepreneurs utilize, especially in affiliate marketing, are
being looked at as hindrances to website experience.
This does not bode well for entrepreneurs in general.
It Just Keeps Coming
There seems to be a continual addition of factors that make it more and more difficult for
new entrepreneurs. The seemingly biggest factor is that the first year seems to be an
unchangeable factor, as we cannot change the age of our websites. The age of your website is tied
to the amount of content it contains. This helps make you an authority in your niche.
The problem here, is that due to some of the issues explained above it does not seem that
you have the ability to make your ranking increase at a faster rate. Unless you are a company
that already has a stable full of writers, updaters and webmasters and everything that
companies need to maintain their first page ranking, how are we supposed to compete?
Google VS The Entrepreneurs Is Won By Time
There may be little tricks that you can do here and there that might increase your ranking slightly.
However the more conditions and indicators that Google ranks on, the more it seems that the only
way to get ahead in this journey with a website is good old fashioned time. The war is not going
anywhere. Google VS The Entrepreneur is here to stay. Time heals all, as they say,
and in this case it is the one thing that we cannot change. Doing research on starting a blog
and studying the entrepreneurs in this arena that are well ahead of me, I learned that you
essentially have to write off the entire first year. It doesn’t necessarily matter what you do,
nothing really makes it go faster. Google has made sure that nothing will change that. As I
said before, you can do everything perfectly and all you’re really doing is stopping the decline
of your website ranking. Due to the fact that there are close to 7 billion websites in the world
today, Google has decided that it only takes the best of the best. If you want to rank on page 1
of Google, you are going to have to be one of those websites that has been
around for a very long time.
Stay thirsty my friends, and more importantly, stay the course.
Cheers
