Easter Egg Rice Krispie Treats

Definitely not your normal Easter treat but see what a little imagination and creativity can turn into. These Easter Egg Rice Krispie Treats are an excellent addition to your Easter holiday table.

Easter is one of my favorite holidays. Easter is the time for JOY and BLESSINGS!

My family gives me true joy and is my biggest blessing and that is why I love planning activities with them and for them.

Dyeing Easter eggs was one of my favorite pre-Easter activities when my kids were younger. I loved watching their faces as they dropped the eggs into the solution. It seemed like hours before they were able to use that little wire scoop to pull the egg out to see if there was enough color on it. 😂

Yes, I loved pretty much everything about those festivities except…..you guessed it: the clean-up. I know you know what I am talking about. 😉

So this year, instead of dyeing Easter eggs, get the kids in the kitchen to make some fun Easter Egg Rice Krispie Treats!

Ok, so this might be a little messy too but I guarantee you will see the same joy on their faces, and you will all be blessed by the new memories and traditions you have created.

Ingredients Needed For Easter Egg Rice Krispie Treats Recipe

  • Butter – sticks or blocks
  • Mini Marshmallows – white but colored will work too
  • Rice Krispies Cereal – any brand that you prefer
  • White Candy Melts – almond bark is also acceptable
  • Easter Sprinkles – pastels or Easter specific sprinkles
  • Food Coloring – pastels or primary colors

How To Make Easter Egg Rice Krispie Treats

Step 1

In a medium-size saucepan or pot, melt butter and marshmallows on low/medium heat. Stir often and make sure the mixture is melted and smooth.

Step 2

Add in drops of food coloring until you achieve the desired color and food coloring is well mixed and incorporated.

Divide the mixture into 3 – 4 equal parts and make each part a different color or make 3 – 4 separate batches and color as desired.

Step 3

Remove the mixture from the heat and add the cereal. Mix together well until cereal is completely mixed and coated.

Step 4

Using your hands, take approximately 1/4 cup of the cereal mixture. Make sure the palms of your hands and fingers are buttered so the mixture does not stick.

Step 5

Firmly press the mixture into egg shapes and place on a piece of wax paper, parchment paper, or Silpat baking mat. Continue with this method until all of the mixture has been shaped into eggs.

Step 6

Repeat the process of molding the mixture into egg shapes with each different color.

Step 7

Using a double boiler or microwave-safe bowl, melt the white candy melts stirring until smooth.

Step 8

In a shallow bowl or tray, pour in the assorted sprinkles.

Step 9

Carefully dip the bottom half of each Rice Krispie egg into the white chocolate first and then the sprinkles. Immediately put on wax paper or parchment paper to allow the chocolate to set.

Step 10

Continue this process until all the Easter Egg Rice Krispie Treats have been dipped and rolled in the sprinkles.

Easter Egg Rice Krispie Treats Recipe Notes And Tips

  • You can use an egg mold or a plastic egg as a mold if you prefer instead of molding the eggs with your hands. Don’t forget to spray the molds to prevent sticking.
  • Use cooking spray on your hands to keep the Rice Krispie eggs from sticking to your hands instead of butter.
  • Allow the molded egg to set for at least 15 – 20 minutes before dipping to allow the marshmallow and butter to cool. This will ensure that the eggs hold their shape.

Variations Of Easter Egg Rice Krispie Treats To Try

  • Roll the Rice Krispie eggs in sanding sugar instead of sprinkles for a yummy change of pace.
  • Melt several different colors of melting chocolate for dipping the eggs in for a fun variety of colors.
  • Put the melted chocolate in a resealable plastic bag or piping bag and drizzle the chocolate over the eggs for a different look.
  • Use melted milk chocolate chips instead of white chocolate. YUM!

FAQs

Here are some common questions readers ask about our Easter Egg Rice Krispie Treats recipe. If you don’t see your question below, please leave it in the comments so I can answer it!

Can I make these Easter Egg Rice Krispie Treats ahead of time?

Yes, definitely! I would serve them within 24 hours of preparation for freshness purposes especially if serving them at a family gathering or school function.

Do I need to refrigerate my Easter Egg Rice Krispie Treats?

No, you do not need to refrigerate these but you will need to keep them in an air-tight container or storage bag in order for them to stay fresh for up to 4 – 5 days.

Can I freeze these Easter Egg Rice Krispie Treats?

Well, this would be a two-part answer. 🙂

Rice Krispie treats will freeze great. Simply wrap each egg in wax paper or plastic wrap individually. Then store in a freezer bag or freezer-safe container for up to 3 months.

With that being said, I would not recommend freezing these Rice Krispie eggs after you have dipped them in the white chocolate and sprinkles.

Freezing the dipped chocolate can change the texture and flavor of the chocolate and cause the colors of the sprinkles to bleed into the chocolate.
