Witches Cauldron Easy Halloween Cake Pops

Cauldron-themed Halloween cake pops are unbelievably easy to make (and decorate!). They will be the hit of the school Halloween party or any festive gathering you use to celebrate the holiday!

The Cake pop craze is still going strong, and it’s not hard to see why! You can spend some serious money at Starbucks or anywhere else that you may buy them. Why do that when you can easily make them yourself?

I’ve been having fun with making cake pops this year and decided to take on the task of decorating them in a different, and unique way for Halloween.

This year, I started by decorating Valentine Cake Pops in a simple but festive way. Then I got a little more creative with my St. Patrick’s Day Cake Pops.

Then I had some red, white, and blue fun with these 4th of July Cake Balls! Oh, and I even made some Ice Cream Cakesicles. Those were fun!

Basically, Cake Pops are just FUN…and delicious! And they’re actually super easy to customize for any occasion or holiday.

With that in mind, I recently started wracking my brain to think of ways to decorate Halloween Cake Pops. Halloween is a BIG holiday in our house, after all. Whatever I came up with had to be good!

I thought of full-sized ghosts, and that could be cute but really wanted to stick to the ball shape (or closer to it for these). Then I moved to witches and that seemed complicated until I thought of a witch’s cauldron…perfect!

The shape was a clear and easy fit. And if you’ve been around hanging around here for any length of time, you know that I’m a huge fan of EASY.

Let’s make some cauldron-shaped Halloween cake pops!

Ingredients Needed For This Easy Halloween Cake Pops Recipe

  • 1 box of Devil’s Food Cake Mix (including ingredients for the cake mix)
  • 1/4 cup cream cheese frosting (or any frosting of your choice such as buttercream, or chocolate!)
  • 12 oz cocoa chocolate melts, melted
  • 4 oz green chocolate melts, melted
  • 4 oz orange chocolate melts, melted
  • 1 oz vanilla almond bark (1 square), melted
  • Green and orange round sprinkles
  • 20 cake pop sticks

How To Make Halloween Cake Pops

This process may seem complicated, but it really just takes some time due to first making the cake…and then destroying it! Check out how to make Witch Cauldron Halloween Cake Pops.

Prepare The Cake Pop Filling

Bake your cake according to the box mix instructions. Once cooked, allow to completely cool.

In a large mixing bowl, add your cake and frosting. Mix well.

Using a small cookie scoop, or spoon, scoop your cake mix. With the palms of your hands, roll into a ball. You can eyeball it, but you want to make the pops as much as the same size as you can.

Prepare To Decorate Cauldron Halloween Cake Pops

Dip your pop stick into a very small amount (the size of your pinky nail) of the melted chocolate. Then immediately stick into your cake pop. Repeat until you add a stick to all the cake balls.

Prepare a cookie sheet, plate, cutting board, etc. Any flat surface will do. Add a sheet of parchment paper.

Using your fingers, lightly press down on each of the cake pops so that the flat surface flattens the “top” of the cake pops.

Decorate Your Witch Cauldron Halloween Cake Pops

Dip each cake pop into your melted chocolate. I prefer to use a large bowl, and by using a spoon, coat each part of the cake pop. Once coated, hold the stick, and lightly tap your cake pop on the side of the bowl to remove excess chocolate.

Once you feel that most of the excess has come off, put your cake pop upside down (stick up). Repeat until done. Allow the chocolate to dry.

Next, dip about 1/3 of the cake pop in the melted, colored chocolate of your choice. I used green on half the cake pop balls and orange on the other half.

Hold the stick, and lightly bang the stick on a hard surface causing the “drip” effect. Immediately add your round sprinkles to the top of your cake pop while it’s still wet.

Allow To Dry

I have used Styrofoam to hold my cake pops in while they dry. However, you can easily get a cake pop holder to avoid the mess that styrofoam creates (because that drives me nuts!).

Once the chocolate has dried, serve!

After I make these cauldrons, I guess I was inspired and came up with so many more ideas for fun (and easy) Halloween cake pops! Try making:

Change The Flavor Or Colors

I chose to use Devil’s food cake because I love it (and I think the black cake looks better), but you can use any flavor cake. You can use red velvet cake, vanilla cake, lemon, or any other flavor you like!

Also, feel free to use different colors of candy melts if you want. I liked the Halloween colors of orange and green on the brown. But feel free to change it up…purple, white, or even red could look amazing!

What supplies do I need?

These supplies aren’t necessary, but they will REALLY help make the job faster, easier, and more enjoyable!

  • cookie scoop will make dividing and shaping your cake balls so much easier

How do you store Halloween cake pops?

Once you have finished your cake pops, you can store them at room temperature for 1-2 days. This will help prevent the condensation problem that can arise in the fridge or freezer.

Keep them out of warm areas and sunlight so they don’t melt.

Can you freeze cake pops before decorating?

Yes! You can store the undipped cake balls in an air-tight container for up to 2 days in the fridge…or freeze them for up to 6 weeks.

When freezing them, make sure to first separate them using plastic or wax paper so the balls don’t stick together.

Can you freeze cake pops after dipping?

Yes, again! You can also freeze the finished cake pops in an air-tight container for up to 6 weeks once the coating has fully set and everything has cooled.

Before putting them in the freezer, loosely wrap them in wax paper to help prevent condensation.

Thaw overnight in the refrigerator.
